Family Learning Course for Parents – starting Wednesday 10th October

Foundation of Light: Family Learning Courses



Who are our courses designed for?


Parents, grandparents or other family members who wish to have fun with their child/children in school and to help strengthen the bond between them and their child, whilst also gaining support from our tutors for their learning and skill development. Must be 19 years of age or over.



How long are our courses/ how does it work?


One afternoon or morning a week, two hours long (one hour in a classroom/meeting room adults only, one hour with child for games in a hall or outdoors weather dependent), for ten weeks. We ask parents to set targets for themselves to focus on objectives to achieve throughout the course. Courses are fully funded meaning no cost to the school whatsoever. All materials and equipment are provided by the course tutor.



What do participants need?


No previous experience or qualifications required, we only ask for a willingness to learn. Participants need to wear appropriate clothing and footwear (i.e. trainers, suitable clothing for being active) for the second hour.



What will participants achieve?


A Family Learning certificate will be given to both participant and child at our Family Learning Graduation Event held at the Stadium of Light at the end of the 10-week course. Participants will also gain improvements on their fitness, relationship with their child, parenting techniques and life skills.



The Award- Winning course we are offering:



A Healthy Balance:


Develop skills, understanding and knowledge to support their child’s learning in Numeracy. Areas we cover are: Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Area/Perimeter/Volume, Fractions/Decimals/Percentages, Data Handling and Problem Solving. We believe that this can help with aspects of their child’s homework.


What next?


Having the opportunity to take part in further Family Learning or Adult courses, advance to Numeracy, Finance, ICT. Also, to gain further information on other opportunities to learn in the school, strengthen the relationship with the school and in the community.
